Khurrum's entrepreneurial success is built on fifteen years of experience, first as the owner and manager of his own automotive service business, then in management and development positions at GE, AOL and GrabMedia. He gained valuable experience in finance, total quality management and leadership principles at GE. At AOL, Khurrum honed his business development skills while negotiating complex partnerships and working in cross-functional teams of product and software developers and engineers. In his new business development role at GrabMedia, he was responsible for establishing and growing strategic partnerships. Khurrum is a graduate of the University of New Haven in New Haven, Connecticut.
Hassan has 11 years experience designing, architecting and developing enterprise business applications within e-commerce and client-server solutions. His technical expertise is based on Microsoft Technologies such as the .NET Framework and Microsoft SQL Server. Hassan has a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from La Roche College in Pittsburgh and is currently pursuing a masters degree in Management Information Technology from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Ronald’s experience in systems engineering and systems administration springs from 15 years in both large and small corporate environments. As a former member of the Univision Communications management team, Ronald played an instrumental role in the sale of Univision Music, leading their IT division through the sale while focusing on buyer/seller collaboration. He has a BS in Information Technology and a Masters in Information Systems

Phil has more than 17 years experience in the financial services industry. During his time with American Skandia in Sales, Operations and Key Accounts, the company was leading its industry in variable annuity sales and product innovation. Phil also spent 12 years with AXA Equitable’s wholesale division, working in an operational capacity to improve service standards and create a better customer experience, all helping the company increase sales to record levels. Phil received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.
Mark Gruhin, a business lawyer for 30 years, has guided several startup businesses, some as a founder. He has extensive corporate experience in venture capital, private equity, M&A, securities regulation, government contracts, financial transactions, and investments in real estate and closely held corporations. His corporate experience includes serving as outside general counsel, structuring, drafting and negotiating transactions in connection with due diligence, asset sales and acquisitions, stock acquisitions, mergers, private placements, IPOs, venture capital transactions and lending transactions. His corporate law practice represents domestic and foreign corporations, entrepreneurs, partnerships, limited liability companies, nonprofits, ESOPs and cooperatives in their formation, day-to-day operations and corporate, financial and contractual transactions. The practice has a particular focus on high technology and biotechnology.
Brian has 15 years of experience in both B2B and B2C Digital Media. As SVP Corporate Development & Business Development for GlobalSpec, a private equity owned B2B website, he was responsible for all their M&A and strategic commercial deals, and ultimately helped sell the venture for $135mm. Prior to that he was at AOL for more than 12 years. As VP Business Development at AOL, he managed a team of 13 people that supported all transactions for all of AOL's web content properties, closing more than 400 deals per year for over 75 different websites & brands. As Assistant General Counsel at AOL, he managed a team of 6 attorneys and 4 paralegals responsible for negotiating and drafting all advertising, eCommerce and search related transactions, worth approximately $1 billion in annual revenue. Prior to AOL, Brian worked for two well-respected law firms, Shearman & Sterling in New York and Akin Gump in DC. He currently owns his own digital media consulting firm, BH Media LLC. Brian has an MBA from the University of Michigan and a JD from Boston University.
Jim is a multi-talented and results-oriented human resources professional with an extensive background in several private and public sector organizational disciplines. His proven ability to make sound business decisions gains management trust and cooperation on strategic talent management initiatives. A seasoned executive with a reputation for being tough and fair minded, he brings a wealth of experience with Fortune 500 companies, successfully implementing several major human resources programs and systems while in key management roles. Jim has spent the past 10 years consulting and recruiting for private companies and the public sectors. Prior to that, he spent five years in Charlotte, North Carolina as Senior Vice President, Human Resources for Bank of America’s Information Technology Group. Prior to that, he was in Silicon Valley working for Oracle and Apple and in New York as Vice President of Personnel for Card Services with Citibank. He came to those positions after 9 years with Xerox after beginning his career as a technical recruiter for Sales and Field Service with Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), where he rose to lead recruiter directing the activities of a 10 member national team.
Jim received the Man of the Year Award from the City of San Francisco, taught at Cal State University, Sacramento School of Continuing Education and is certified in several career development assessment tools, outplacement, and diversity awareness and negotiation skills. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University.
Shafiq leads Marriott’s eCommerce initiatives These include Marriott.com, which ranks among the top ten retail sites in the world with gross sales of over $7 B in 2011; Marriott’s relationships with all online channels including Expedia, Priceline Travelocity, Orbitz; all global distribution systems (GDS) including Sabre, Galileo/Worldspan, Amadeus; and the emerging online travel intermediaries which include search engines such as Google and Yahoo and meta-search engines such as Kayak. Previously, Shafiq was at US Airways, where he pioneered a series of groundbreaking initiatives which fundamentally restructured airline distribution. These include the development and launch of the airline industry’s first online booking product, Priority TravelWorks; electronic ticketing; and various distribution channel re-engineering projects for the corporate marketplace. His prior background includes assignments at United Airlines in marketing; management consulting with Booz Allen & Hamilton International: and marketing and sales assignments with Pakistan International Airlines, in both Pakistan and in France.
Shafiq is currently on the boards of the American Foundation for the Blind, Roomkey.com, the Montgomery County Muslim Council and Foundation; prior board assignments include the Airline Reporting Corporation and the Harvard Business School Club of Washington D.C. He holds an economics degree from the Punjab University in Lahore, Pakistan and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Usman’s 17 plus years of corporate experience in the areas of Finance, Operations, and Strategy have been primarily focused in the technology, software, internet, and government contracting industries. His functional expertise includes extensive experience with M&A transactions, business valuations, risk management, treasury, business strategy, and operational infrastructure development.
In his current role as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President at Berico Technologies, Usman has led Berico in a number of strategic transactions over the last 4 years, to include two spinouts, a sale of a subsidiary, and the formation of a Joint Venture. Additionally, Usman has been responsible for managing the Company’s relationships with key partners in the PE, VC, Investment Banking, and Capital Markets areas. Mr. Shakir was recognized as a top 5 finalist during the 2012 NVTC CFO of the Year Award.
Prior to Berico, Usman served in Senior Corporate Finance roles with Deltek and AOL, where he led Finance Operations for divisions with revenue exceeding $100M respectively. Earlier in his career, Usman worked in various Finance roles for a PE firm in Toronto, Canada, GE Capital, and began his career in Public Accounting with Big 4 firm KPMG in Stamford, Connecticut.
Usman has completed course work through the Executive MBA program at The Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary, and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland at College Park. Mr. Shakir currently serves on the Boards of two other Washington D.C. based companies, and was also a former professional baseball player.
