Founded in 1937 in South Korea as National Motor, Daewoo has collaborated via joint ventures with many well-known brands. Prior to being purchased by Daewoo Motors Group in 1982 and operating under the Daewoo badge, Daewoo formed a joint venture with Toyota as Shinjin Motor. In 1972 after joining with General Motors the company name was again changed to Saehan Motor. It wasn't until 1999 when Daewoo ran into financial trouble that General Motors acquired all of its assets. Shortly thereafter in 2004 Daewoo was purchased by Indian automotive brand Tata.
