Edsel Ford, son of Henry Ford launched the Mercury brand in 1938. Mercury was a Ford Motor Company luxury line positioned between Ford branded and Lincoln branded luxury models. From 1958 through 1960 the Lincoln-Mercury division was known as Lincoln-Edsel-Mercury. As the Ford Motor Company refocused it's efforts on the Ford and Lincoln brands it slowly phased out all Mercury vehicles and the last Mercury automobile rolled off the assembly in January 2011.
